About The Project
Several timber power line braces had failed across site, presenting a fire risk. Insite was asked to inspect the unbroken braces to identify failure likelihood.
The client had initially engaged another engineering company to inspect the braces. They used binoculars from the ground and were unable to identify any issues.

Our Approach
Close-range drone-based inspection from every angle.
Insite manually piloted the Matrice 4E within 0.8m of the power pole to get close-range, high-res inspection imagery of the braces.
Unlike ground-based inspections, we were able to get closer and inspect from above. That's the advantage that allowed us to deliver inspection insights that other engineering consultants couldn't.

Our Findings
Traditional inspections failed to identify any issues with these power lines. Insite did.
From above and at close-range, we were able to identify damage to the timber braces at the centre mounting point (point of failure). This find was relayed to our client quickly, allowing them to control this risk.
We also generated a model for our client to inspect the power poles for themselves and share the condition with colleagues.
